Who are we and why are we doing this?
14 The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by life’s worries, riches and pleasures, and they do not mature.
15 But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop.
We are Christians. We are volunteers. We have had successful careers, and we want to give back.
In Silicon Valley parlance, we want our giving to “scale.” Our mission is to give back productively, produce long-term growth, and help people help themselves.
Our experiences and observations show that communities that thrive most and those whose members, through God’s guiding grace, love and support one another. These are Christian values whose foundation is faith in God’s love and guidance.
Our goal is to foster the growth of these communities. That growth starts with communication and prayer.
PrayerGroup® connects you with your family, friends, and fellow believers to expand and strengthen Jesus’ Kingdom. PrayerGroup® is a unique social media platform which unifies local and world-wide communities of prayerful Christians who desire to see God move powerfully in our present world.
We believe God hears the prayers of His people and is intimately involved in their lives. Whether next door or halfway around the world, PrayerGroup® connects people, encourages generosity, and facilitates healthy community through public and private Groups. Groups are dynamic and can serve individual discipleship, small groups, churches of any size, support groups, or organizations. Participate in one or multiple groups to be encouraged and have the opportunity to bless others as we witness the power of prayer in the lives of others. Share in the testimonies of answered prayer, words of encouragement, and uplifting community to the glory of God. Our goal is to foster an inspirational environment as we grow in the knowledge, wisdom, understanding, and faith in Jesus Christ through community and personal prayer. Connect, share, and pray with PrayerGroup®.
Is there a fee to join?
PrayerGroup® is completely free. Our mission is to bring together, world-wide, communities of prayerful Christians who desire to see God move powerfully in our present world. Requiring money from you would only hinder this mission. We encourage those who believe in what we are doing to voluntarily participate by becoming partners in our ministry. Your prayers, support, and feedback will always be greatly appreciated.
The initial creation and maintenance of PrayerGroup® has been provided by a small group who believe that this platform will be a blessing to a multitude of people. The development and maintenance of the app are labors of love by the volunteers.
At some point in the future, PrayerGroup® will add an option for you to donate money to the church or organization of your choice. You also will be able to subscribe to help support the app if you choose to.
Transparency and proper accounting of 100% of your donations will be provided to you and the church or organization of your choice.
At no point will PrayerGroup® be supported by advertising. PrayerGroup® is and will always be an advertising-free app dedicated to prayer, discipleship, and sharing the love of Christ with others.
Church Membership and Registration
Why am I asked to select a church?
Selecting a church is optional. By selecting a church you will be able to join or request membership to groups associated with that church and you will automatically be a member of the church’s default group. You will also be able to find other users that are members of your church and form private groups with them.
Why do I not see my church?
The United States is blessed with over 100,000 “formal” churches. We are working hard to build a comprehensive list of these houses of worship. Bear with us until we complete this project.
You may also worship at an informal church. In this case, please register your church so that others in your church may worship with you.
How do I add my church to PrayerGroup®?
Am I allowed to join a church I do not attend?
You may opt to join any church.
What if I attend more than one church?
You are able to join as many churches as you would like. See your church affiliations by clicking ‘Home’ then click the name of the currently selected church from the top display bar. You may join additional churches using the Church Selection menu item in your settings.
How do I see my currently selected church?
To see your selected church press ‘Home’ in the navigation bar. The church name will be displayed at the top of the screen. If you are a member of multiple churches, you can switch between churches by clicking the church name and selecting a different church. Note that the Groups screen will only show church groups for your currently selected church – your private groups will always be displayed.
Can other users see that I have joined a church?
Only the members of the church which you join can see your affiliation with the church.
Can I communicate with people outside of my church?
You may communicate with anyone who can receive an email or an SMS message by inviting them to a group or sharing a prayer directly with them. We have built the app to help you inspire others seeking to grow deeper in their relationship with Jesus and to build up the Church as a whole!
Can I create an account even If I am not part of a church?
Anyone is able to create an account without having to select any church to be affiliated with.
Who manages a church?
We view churches as places of worship. Places of worship may be formal entities with a 501(c)(3) designation or informal fellowships of Christians that meet in a living room.
You may register your church with PrayerGroup® and invite others to it. By doing so, you become your church’s manager and agree to comply with PrayerGroup®’s community rules and terms of service. As such, you will become responsible for moderating content in your church (see Content Moderation and Bad Behavior in the FAQs below).
In the future, we will include functionality in the app to designate a pastor and other church leadership. We will also have functionality for the church manager, pastor, or other leaders to assign moderation responsibilities to others.
What is the benefit of registering a church or other ministry-oriented organizations with 501 (C)(3) status?
Soon, PrayerGroup® will enable a subscription model where it will become possible to give regular donations to the church through PrayerGroup®. This donation model is only possible with 501 (c)(3) organizations because of their tax-exempt status. PrayerGroup® will provide regular donation reports both to the 501 (c)(3) organization and the donor for tax purposes.
You do not need to make donations to use PrayerGroup®. Making donations is voluntary.
Donations are intended for churches and missionary causes. PrayerGroup® does not take any portion of these donations.

Privacy and Security
What is encrypted in PrayerGroup®?
PrayerGroup® allows users to create or join both Private Groups and Church Groups. All content in Private Groups is encrypted and only is available to members of that Private Group. Church Group communications are unencrypted and readable by everyone.
Who can listen to my Prayers?
Church Group prayers are available to all. Private Group prayers are kept private to the group in which they are shared, so only members belonging to the group have access to them. Because your privacy is important, your Private Group prayers can only be shared by you and cannot be re-shared by anyone else.
Can other people share my Prayers?
No. To keep your prayers private, only the creator of the prayer is able to share it. The members of the group where you shared your prayer are only able to listen to it.
Do I have to share my Prayers?
No. When recording a prayer you will be able to save the prayer in your private group. The group named “Personal” contains just one member, you, and is a place to store prayers you wish to keep to yourself. You may create different topics if you wish to further categorize your prayers.Your private prayers will remain private at all times, but you will be able to go back and access them.
Can I save Prayers for myself or do I always have to send them?
You are always able to save prayers in your personal section, and they will continue to remain private. You can always access them and share them at a later time, if you choose to.
What is the difference between a Church Group and a Private Group?
A church group will be visible to all users that are associated with your church. It may be set up to allow users to join automatically upon request or to require that requests to join be approved by the creator(s) of the group.
Private groups are not visible to non-members and require an invitation from a group member to join. Users may choose to accept or decline invitations they receive.
Is my Private Group Dialog visible to other people?
Only members of the private group will be aware of it.
Can people search for me in the app?
How do I know my user information is secure?
Church Group communications are open for everyone to read. For Private Groups, PrayerGroup® uses two layers of encryption to protect user data. The first layer pertains to “data in flight,” meaning when any data is being transmitted from one place – like your smartphone – to another, like PrayerGroup®’s backend for distribution to others. The second layer pertains to “data at rest,” which is data that is stored on our backend servers to create the service that all collectively use..
PrayerGroup® uses TLS to encrypt all data in flight. TLS is the core encryption technology that protects all communications over the internet.
To protect data at rest, PrayerGroup® creates a separate encryption key pair for each group. Members of each group automatically receive the encryption keys for the groups to which they belong. These keys allow all data at rest to be encrypted – even from PrayerGroup® developers – while allowing members of each group to freely communicate with each other.

Can members of my church see which groups I have joined?
Members of your church will only know about your membership to groups that you both have joined.
Is there a place to report inappropriate prayers/comments or member misconduct?
Content Moderation and Bad Behavior
Who is responsible for Content Moderation?
The Group Owner, or anyone who creates a group, is responsible for moderating the content within his or her group. We recommend that church leaders meet with Group Owners regularly to have a solid understanding of their flock’s needs, know where problems lay, and address those problems proactively before they become bigger issues.
What is the role of a Group owner?
The Group Owner is responsible for setting up the Group, acting as a gatekeeper for groups whose membership is not open, and moderating the content within that group.
What is inappropriate content?
How do you report inappropriate content reflected in Prayers or Comments?
How do you report member misconduct?
What happens to members who post inappropriate content or misbehave otherwise?
Local policing is the best policy. Group Owners can remove content from any topics in their groups. Topic creators also can remove content from those topics.
It is the responsibility of Group Owners to have the offending member remove inappropriate postings or text. Group Owners may also banish members who abuse PrayerGroup®’s community rules, terms of service, or violate the intended culture of the Group.
Per PrayerGroup®’s terms of service, we also reserve the right to banish users from our platform for any reason. This banishment may come without warning. When a member is banished, his or her account may be suspended or deleted. If the member’s account is deleted, the content associated with that member will be deleted permanently.
Please adhere to the intent of PrayerGroup®. Our mission is to expand God’s Kingdom.
